Post regular updates to your school website .. by email
School websites are there to provide news and information, yet a large proportion of sites are updated about as regularly as a bus timetable on the Outer Hebrides.
This is typically because there is only one person responsible for updating the site and they are far too busy juggling ten other important tasks. Oh, and they can’t remember the login details!
There is, however, one plugin which will enable you to update the website without logging in, and it also makes it easy for you to share the job with others.
Postie plugin takes little more than 10 minutes to install and enables WordPress users to post news directly to the website by email, with images or documents attached, without the need to sign in.
That means staff can simply attach the latest newsletter to an email, send it to a predefined email address and within 5 minutes the news is published on the school’s news or blog page.
‘..relief for pining parents..’
Teachers can also post regular updates and photos by sending an email from their smartphone or tablet while in the classroom or out and about – providing great relief for pining parents whose kids have embarked on a school trip!
The plugin only accepts emails sent from addresses you choose to authorise, so you can enable teachers to send from their personal email accounts if needed (their address will not appear on the website).
On school websites where the plugin has been installed, the effect has been remarkable, with both administrators and teachers starting to make regular contributions.
This transforms the site into a source of up-to-date and engaging information for parents, rather than what it had become: a rarely-visited digital snapshot of the past.
Do get in touch if you’d like help installing this plugin on your school or college website.
